Hello, I was just wondering how many eggs can fit inside a 20'x15' hatching tray. Also, considering I have ordered 250 eggs in total, how can i candle them without putting them at risk.
P.S. If you think I'm planning on putting 250 eggs in that hatching tray, you're right, well at least I'm hoping I can. Hopefully, I can find a way to candle the eggs and remove bad ones to make more space. Thanks and have a great day.

What species of eggs, quail, chicken, duck, ostrich?
Is this a DIY incubator build or a manufactured incubator?
Are the hatching trays for after pulling from the setter or are they for holding the eggs upright in the setter?
How many levels in your cabinet?
Will they be in an automatic egg turner?
It isn't absolutely necessary to candle.

Sorry for not being clearer. The eggs are chicken eggs and are BAs, black silkies, plymouth rocks and heavy buffs(idk the official breed name for this one). They are hatching trays for after pulling from the setter. Finally this is a manufactured build with 3 levels of self rotating trays, and self regulating temperature/humidity. Also, the main reason I was hoping to candle was to make space in the hatching tray. This machine was made by a madman as far as I can tell. Who makes a 528 egg machine that has a 20x14 hatching tray?!

OK for the hatcher tray, they eggs will be laying down. Do you have several levels in the hatcher?
Off the top of my head I can't remember but I'd say about 40 or so eggs in each tray. Do the trays have covers to keep the chicks from jumping out?
When people say buffs, they are usually talking about Orpingtons, but there are at least 20 or 30 breeds that have a buff variety so it could be something else.

I have only one tray for hatching with no cover, I can probably make one and maaaybe put in another hatching tray, but wouldn't that affect ventilation to the lower level? I've attached two images that hopefully explain. Also, while heavy buffs do slightly resemble buff orpingtons, I'm not sure.

I'm assuming you are setting all 250 at the same time. Is that the case?
I built a combination incubator/setter once. the two parts were in separate compartments. I wasn't thinking ahead and set more eggs in the turners than would fit in the hatcher tray. It was a real challenge. Luckily, not all eggs developed or I would have been in trouble. Now I have a hatcher that has 7 levels for trays.

I've made the same mistake and ordered 250 eggs. Since I've already paid I don't think turning back is a choice now. I'll try putting in another hatching tray and having a guy help me out candle the eggs on the 8th day to see how many eggs didn't develop. Also, yea I'm putting them all in at the same time.:hmm:hmm
