My husband and I have been keeping chickens for a little over a year now and we finally had our first broody hen. She disappeared 4 days ago and after searching extensively we assumed she'd been taken by a hawk. Two days later we bought a batch of chicks to replenish our flock and while searching for our brooder light in our shed we found our "missing" Easter egger and her clutch of 28 eggs!!

Knowing this area wasn't safe from predators we moved her and the eggs into the chicken coop. Of course now she'll have nothing to do with them. Her sister has sat on them sporadically but not long enough to be effective in sure.

My question is we had already ordered an incubator but it won't be here until Monday. Taking that and our dead beat mama hen into account, will those eggs still be viable to go into the incubator on Monday? Or should we just toss them and try again with a different batch of eggs?

I would take that heat lamp and some damp paper towels and put them in a bucket of some kind. Some people have actually hatched eggs this way, do it might keep them for a few days. Just watch the temperature and humidity carefully. Remember: pointy end goes down.
