Incubator has gaps in sides. Chicks falling through

We are incubating our first chicken eggs ever. They have started to hatch and once we removed the rotator and laid them on the plastic underneath there are gaps in the sides of the incubator. 2 have fallen through and have died. One it has hurt their beg when we got it up. Why can we do to fix this? Please help. My heart is breaking for the poor babies.

Run to the dollar store and get shelf liner out it under all the eggs but make sure it over laps enough to cover or fill those gaps.

I just dampen rags and put them rolled up over the gaps. That ups my humidity as well and is easy to rewet
