I need some ideas/feedback on how to keep the humidity up in my little incubator (i have borrowed it from a friend-I have no idea what kind it is).. it is still air, with little pockets at one end for water. I don't think--but am not sure--that the water in those little spots is providing enough moisture.. so I THOUGHT I could maybe keep a moistened paper towel on the eggs? I had a terrible drop in temp a few days ago, and I believe I lost all but 3 of the eggs. (there were 9)... anyway. I am totally babying these last three!! I will be walkin on sunshine if I can get 'em to hatch!! They seem strong with a lot of movement, so keep your fingers crossed for these lil sweethearts!

Paper towel may have the effect of drawing moisture out of the air. Have you got a hydrometre to actually measure the humidity?? It may be enough if you have the correct trays already full of water. If It really is low - you can add a sponge soaked in water. Having humidity too high can result in the ducklings hatching very sticky from the excess moisture- or the can actually drown before hatching- So it would be a good idea to meaure the current humidity before making any changes.

I use a rolled wash cloth soaked with warm water in my incubator. it easily keeps my humidity around 70%-75%. you have to re-wet it every couple days but it works great.

Wal-Mart sells a combo thermometer/hygrometer for about $6, they are pretty accurate. Just don't spill water on it.. i did that and it messed the screen up.(clumsy

) they also sell more expensive ones that work better.

I am borrowing one that a friend bought with their incubator and it's huge but awesome. i have no idea what kind it is tho.
