humidity is controlled by the surface area of the water pan you are using. depth does not matter. for instance a 5 inch by 5 inch pan will create less humidity than a 5 inch by 10 inch pan. you can use several of the small plastic "sandwich" storage containers, subtract containers for less humidity.

edited to add: nice work by the way!

here's my home made incubator I hatched out 3 batches in this this year. dry hatch. 8''x9'' box 15 w light. small white dish under metal bowl had water in it about once every couple days not much. more on hatching days.

this batch was 100% hatch w/dry hatch.

I modified it to hold this many eggs. dark eggs are blue copper marans from ebay took just 3 days to mail and all intact.the last batch is due 8/18

I like this!!!
I could TOTALLY do this!!!
I want to hatch out just several eggs from my white Leghorns (the chicks will be 1/4 G-L Wayndotte), but I need more eggs this summer, so I want to get a jump on hatching.

I have much improved my instructions since that first hatch in the reg. cardboard box.- I will get the new plans to ya. I even came up with a new Idea yesterday.

We're starting an incubator. We've chosen our box:

It's a produce box, so it has double walled sides. We'll cover the holes with other cardboard. The clothespins are to hold the cardboard in place while we're taping it.
That's where we are.
We're working on specifics of making the lid.
