incubator ideas! post your ideas for home made incubators, whether they work or not~

Wow, that's one nice incubator! But what's the top, above the fan, for? Is that where you place yur humidity pan? I had the luck to actually inspect a GQF cabinet hatcher, and I see that your initial placement, aside from he humidity pan, is similar. I can also understand from what you told me earlier about the fan(s) I have being too weak for it. I'll try and find another one.
Also, what is that material you use for he insides? It resembles a refridgerator. Which, is awesome!
Thank-you Quintinp for the wiring diagram, I haven't used it yet(coz my head is killing me!) But I will later.

it is called white board, its waterproof and very easy to clean....it is what is used for message boards
Above the fan? I take it you mean the shelf it serves 2 purposes 1 being to hold a humidity pan and 2 to block the wind off the eggs.

This thread is great, wonderful idea's. I had though maybe I should hatch some eggs myself, but have never done so. I am not about to buy a really expensive incubator. Maybe I have get my husband to build a homemade one to do a trial. :)

That's so cool! I'll have to get some of it one of these days, as my storafoam in my incubator keps getting damaged and putting aluminum foil over it is an epic failure and a waste. No one do that. It SUCKS! And yeah, I suppose that is a good idea, with the fan. Sucks that I can't do that with mine. But oh well. Here's a message for anyone wanting to build an incubator, do your research before you build your incubator, or build it to where you can alter and change stuff.

Well I can now report that my newest hatching incubator works too!!!!

I hatched 5 out of 9 shipped eggs + 1 home-grown and two days later hatched 2 more home-grown eggs this week. My two home-made incubators are hatching 100% of home-grown eggs so far. I have 8 new EE/OE chicks from my chickens and 6 BR, 10 BLO and now 5 L Auracana from shipped eggs. Thanks for all the help and great advice

. I have 34 more shipped eggs BLO, BO and LO in my incubator with 2 different lock-down dates still to do. Thanks a bunch Mohillbilly and Happy Hatching everyone!

Here's a picture I made for you. I hope this is right, and hope this helps. I am usually better with pictures, so I figured I would do this.

Wired like that neither the light or the heater will work correctly, you have them in series (splitting 110v between themselves). They should be in parallel, each getting the full 110v. The two light and the heater leads should be both connected to the white and black ( what you labeled positive and negative). When dealing with 110v AC, white is considered "neutral" and black "hot" though when working with them they both should be respected as being "hot", no "positive or negative" in AC.

I think next incubator I make I'll use white board to line the inside. The one that I have now is a large foam box that says "live worms" on the cover.

Thank you for correcting me. I was looking at my Brower incubator not to long ago, and thought that I saw this. I was wrong. I should have thought that it wouldn't have worked, but as for respecting both of the wires as being Hot, I labeled them as that, thinking it would be easier for people to understand, but Neutral and Hot works just as well.

I will edit that post, and re-do my diagram.

My fridge bator, put eggs in, 6 Turkey, 30+ quail and 10 bym, temps have been stable and humidity at 30 need to up it but am ok for right now
