I'm really hoping someone see this and can help me out. So I have been having issues with not having anything grow in the eggs. Well now I had 2 eggs tonight that were 4 days over due so I cracked them open to see what was going on. Inside was a fully developed chick with a big yolk sack on it. Why didn't they hatch? Its so frusterating. I finally get chicks in the eggs and they don't hatch?

Hi allanimals:

It's hard to say what's going on--there are SO many things that can go wrong during incubation, especially right at the end. Some details might help with diagnosis:

What incubator are you using? What was the temp? Humidity? What kind of chicks?

Hopefully someone will be able to help guide you to a successful hatch the next time.

I the temp was at 99.5. The humidity I am not sure. I dont have the fancy equipment at all Its just a simple incubator from mills fleet farm. They were Old English Game Bantys. Its really starting to upset me...

You can get a hygrometer from walmart for like $5-$8 and it would help monitor the humidity etc. It could have been to high and they drowned in the egg...Is there a way to take a pic of your incubator so we know what it could be.

I have heard that bantams sometimes have a hard time breaking out of their shells. I don't know though.

I second the suggestion to get a hygrometer from Walmart. Very inexpensive, and a huge help--if your humidity is wrong during the hatch, your fully developed chicks will not be able to get out successfully. Do you know what the humidity is like in your part of the world usually? Humid? Dry? That will have an effect too. Were you filling the reservoirs in your incubator with water? Did you open the incubator at all during the last few days of incubation?

I just bought a thermometer/hygrometer combo at walmarts tonight, it was $6. It was with their other house thermometers. Oh yeah, and are you still turning the eggs during the last 3 days before due hatching? I've never hatched, but all instructions I've read say not to turn them. You probably already know that, but thought I'd mention it. Good luck. Hope you get it solved.

That's a cool looking incubator. Hadn't seen that one before.

Personally, if I were having trouble with my hatches, I would try not to add new batches until I figured the problem out. Eggs have different needs during the hatching portion of the incubation than during the first part, so it can cause complications if you are trying to meet all those needs in one enclosed space.

Also, did you stop turning the eggs during the last few days? Did you add extra humidity (by filling another reservoir or placing a wet sponge or similar means)? Those can affect hatching.

Thanks for posting the link - they have other cool stuff too but I'm not seeing any prices. Do you mind if I ask how much the incubator is?
