Hi all, I am going to put my first hatch into lockdown today (day 18). I am trying to figure out what to use for the incubator lining. I know a lot of people suggest shelf liner, but I don’t think I have any and because of COVID-19, it is hard to get to the store to get some. What else might I use to line my incubator to contain the mess and allow the chicks to have good footing? Thank you!

I have incubated with and without a liner. They do fine without so you don’t have to worry if you don’t have anything.
I have heard of some putting damp paper towels in.
Happy Hatching :jumpy !!!!

people suggest shelf liner,
Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

I found shelf liner to be too pricey for the relentless hatching I have done.

I most often use paper towels, roughest side UP. This DOES effect humidity some, keeping it lower. Careful about wetting the paper towel, once it dries our the eggs can be stuck to it. But yes, sometimes I do DRIP water onto the paper towel after lock down to raise humidity IF needed. Remember give humidity several hours to stabilize after making changes.

I have also used nothing... yes, it's messier, but no big deal if cleaned up right away.

I have found ZERO difference in splay leg instances and consider those to be more genetic than due to hatch flooring.

Happy hatching! :jumpy:jumpy
