Quote: I wouldn't use RubAlch, I use bacitracin for the membranes during an assist and then betadine for actual umbilicus. I am afraid if ointment is put on it will cause it to not dry out fast enough and become infected if that makes sense?

also I will paste this from the hatching 101 article, I suggest when she is perky to offer her it and dip her beak to show her what it is, or save-a-chick or pedilyte, or baby vitamin drops without iron......

Homemade Electrolyte Recipe for weak/ill chicks
2 C. Water
2 TBL. Brown Sugar, honey or molasses
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
Mix until all dry ingredients dissolve & Keep refrigerated
You could also use electrolyte drinks Gatorade or Pedialyte, or
3 drops of POLYVISOL (liquid childrens A-B-D vitamins)
Slowly drip along inner edge of lower beak.

Ok, I will pick some up this weekend, so I have it on hand, just in case.

No assist from me. And I missed the hatch. Someone posted that the first chick assisted though.

Not sure on the breed. Was given the eggs
