If you had to choose doing lockdown on Day 16 or Day 19 which would you do? Lockdown meaning candling, raising humidity and the egg turner will turn off on Day 18. Wait and hope they don’t hatch early on Day 19 with low humidity or go ahead and lockdown early and hope they don’t hatch early because of the humidity being high and no turning so possibly hatching on Day 18 ?!? The reason for the question is while I can have someone check in on them, I’m the only one that does the incubator and I won’t be here for 2.5 days.

Let me find someone who would know better than me.

I'd elect to lockdown earlier rather than later.

But I would not raise the humidity until day 18 or 19 - or when you see chicks pipping internally.

If you raise your humidity too early - this may result in excess fluid in the egg, restricting the chicks breathing ability/time when they internally pip. Depending on severity - this could result in late loss of a chick due to drowning in the egg.

Hi sorry to bump this thread but it seemed in neccesary to start a new one.

I messed up my timeline resulting in lockdown on early day 20, possibly 19. I had an automatic turner up til then. I suppose it is what it is now.
what you you folks think?

No need to be overly worried - late lockdown isn't automatically a bad thing.
Just go ahead and lock them down as per normal.

If you can, do a quick candle first to see how things are progressing.
If you've got chicks already internally pipping you may need to be a little more watchful of their hatch progression to ensure no-one has become shrink wrapped.

Don't be in a hurry to assist though, babies can and do hatch without assistance in lower humidity conditions.

Keep us updated!! :pop :thumbsup
