I just got my first incubator, ready to put some duck eggs in, but want to make sure I do everything right as best as I can so I’ve been reading and researching. One thing I noticed is I should have extra thermometers and hydrometers. So I got some, but I don’t know where to put them. I got this incubator.

And these temp/hydro meters

Where can I stuck them so they are not interfering with the eggs?
Like here?

On the inside of the clear plastic I guess? I know, obviously not on the outside.

When I used a similar incubator, if it was full with eggs, I'd stack a couple to make an empty slot and put the thermometer/hygrometer there. That meant I hand turned those a couple of times a day for 5-6 days until I candled and could take out a couple of the unfertilized ones.

I suppose you could attach it to the inside of the lid. If you have any velcro, that would be a slick way so you could take it out when cleaning or to put somewhere else.

The most important reason to have a separate thermometer/hygrometer is to verify the incubator's readings, before putting eggs in. Once that's done, then it's optional if you want to use one inside. I always do when I can though.

Good luck and wishing you a great hatch!

I’m test running it now and I placed the sensors in egg spaces. One on each side. they each say 97.9 for the temp but the machine itself says 99.5 should I adjust the machine to 100 or more to make up for it? How do I know if the two sensors are correct or the machine is correct I think should I buy more sensors? I don’t know. @Debbie292d @Island Coppers

I’d trust the thermometers, especially if they are agreeing on room temp. I have tried half a dozen incubators of varying type and none have been accurate. I’ve also noticed a fairly consistent 1.5F degree difference between opposite sides of the same incubator (these little plastic bubble types) so I try and keep the thermometers between 98.5-100.0 and rotate eggs daily from inside ring to outside or front to back or however your layout is. The difference persists even when I swap out thermometer or trade places. My current model says it is running 101 but the thermometers say not so!
