I am on day 12 with my incubator hatching some chicks!

However, the incubator humming is driving me insane.

It starts out with a loud RHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... then goes to a low hmmmmmmm... then stops... 2ish minutes later its.. RRHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMhmmmmmmmmmmmm

I may be asking too much, but is there any way to quiet it down a little? I've tried putting a few heavy glasses on it, which stops it for the current hum. But the next one comes on full blast! And unfortunately, moving the 'bator isn't really an option because my dog may disturb it. I can't put it in the bathroom, because the outlet is right by the door and it would always get knocked into.

Any hope?

EDIT - Additional information - My incubator is a Hova-bator.

Hi! Is it the turner motor 'humming'? I have an incubator w/ turner just barely feet from my pillow (shelves w/ incubators/nightstand/mysideofthebed right together) and I used to hear it all night.
I never used an incubator w/ a wafer thermostat until recently --- surprisingly, the clicking when it goes off and on wakes me up sometimes.
Good luck!

I have a 1588 that bothers me. It's much louder than any of the others. It doesn't change though, just a constant loud hum. I called the company and talked to a real nice man who said the fan has to make noise. When I insisted that it was much louder than any of my other incubators he asked where I bought it. Since I bought it brand new on ebay with a warranty and same price just faster shipping he said I would have to go through the dealer.

Anyway just a long way of saying talk to the dealer and see if he can demo one for you so you can tell if yours should be that loud. Maybe you can swap it out.

My incubator doesn't have a turner, I've been turning them myself.

It must be the heater.

Haha... very similar situation here too... my 'bator is on a table at the end of my bed! Wakes me up too.

Thanks.

Mine doesn't have a turner, just a loud fan. I just use it for a hatcher now and every time I put eggs in there I think they're going to go buggy from the noise, but they hatch out pretty good.

I make a blanket of bubble wrap and duct tape to cover the bator, for insualtion. Think of it like a "Snuggy." It may also help to insulate the noise somewhat - just be sure to leave the vents exposed.
