I just leaned something exciting about incubating chicks that I want to share. If for some reason you loose power for a day or two, your hatch still might make it. Just heat the eggs back up to normal temps and proceed. Here is what happend to me.
My hubby unplugged my incubator the other day by accident and the best we can figure, it was probably unplugged for two days on days 15 and 16. The eggs were cold when I realized what had happend. I was so depressed thinking my whole bator full of eggs were lost. A lot of them are silkies that I have wanted for a couple years now and were given to me. I plugged it back in and prayed and hoped for the best but wasn't too confident because they were so cold. Yesterday morning, on day 21, I actually heard a little "Peep"...and I have a couple places starting to pip. One baby hatched. YAY.
I started getting hope that maybe a couple would make it During the night and today I am having a awesome hatchout. 15 so far. A day delayed but the batch was not lost after all. More are pipping also and looks like more babies are going to hatch as today goes on too. So if you loose power for whatever reason, don't give up. There is still hope!
