I bought an incubator combo kit from incubator warehouse and this is my third one. I keep sending them back and they send me a new one saying that I must have gotten a defective one. I have a homemade incubator but was wondering if there was another way to incubate besides with a light bulb. I have to switch incubators to the one with the light bulb because the kit keeps going out. And when I switch incubators I usually wind up with none hatching. The last time I lost 28 eggs.

Light bulb works.

My redwood incubator uses a heat coil and a wafer thermostat and it doesn't deviate by any more than a 1/10 degree.

I have a small home made incubator that uses a halogen bulb and a digital thermostat. It runs through a cycle with a 2 degree variation in temperature. The bulb stays hot after the thermostat turns it off and it continues to heat. Thermostat can't be turned down, or incubator will get too cold before heat is turned back on. That incubator hatches just fine.

I tried to use the hot plate from a coffee machine. Because it was big and stayed hot long after it was turned off, I could not get the temperature stabilized. It might work in a large cabinet.
