Yucca Valley
I have the bug! I want to hatch my own chicks next year and would like to get an incubator. Which is one of the better ones for your money? I live in Yucca Valley, Ca. (hi-desert). We get temps as high as 110 in the summer, though usually they run 95 to 102. In the winter at night it can get down in the low 20's and I have seen it as low as 13, warm weather doesn't really show up until Juneish. We get a little bit of snow, but not every year, usually it will fall and not stick but a year or two ago we got 16 inches. Our humidity can be as low as 5% and as high as 65%. The incubator will be kept in the garage. Which humidifier has the best temp control vs cost? I may also have the option of slipping the eggs I order under a hen if I happen to have one broody at the time. Any info would be appreciated. I would also like one with an egg turner.

Um, if you stick to hatching in the summer, with those temps you could probably do it without an incubator. LOL!

If you've got the money, I'd recommend a Brinsea. They really are fabulous. The Hovabators are very well thought of too but the styrofoam means they're just that little bit less tough and after a few hatches they'll start to look tatty and once the styrofoam gets scratched or scored they're also harder to clean. That's just my personal preference though. Either of them would be great bators to have...

If you get a Brinsea, the auto turner is a separate motorised cradle you put the whole bator into. With the Hovabator, the turners go inside the bator.
