Incubator recommendations?

DerbyChook, because we agonized over this 'together' I think we should compare our experiences with your Eco and my Advance. And it being our beginning forays into hatching eggs. Want to coordinate our first incubation efforts?

Ha, same age, my excuse? I do have kids, and grandkids, so, I use them as my excuse. They love to come and see grandma's baby chicks.

Derby - Depending on what breed eggs you want, it should be pretty easy for you...there are some Charlotte people on here that I know have hatching eggs!

If you have your eco by June18th I might be able to bring some your way...I have a meeting in Charlotte that day. You can have a choice of Barred Rock, Barred Rock or Barred Rock!

That would be fun! My Eco shipped already. I do have to look at vacation schedules to be sure we will be home enough to incubate and then brood chicks. We are out of town the last week of June, so I wouldn't be able to start until early July. Are you incubating your own eggs, or getting some from elsewhere? I am hugely interested in Ameraucanas and Welsummers.

So generous! I have a barred rock. She is a sweetie! But what I am really interested in are ameraucanas and welsumers. Do you know anyone local who has those breeds?

no one local that I know has welsummers - Sumner Byrd Farm in Holly Springs has ameraucana eggs right now..Roy and David are great! very nice stock of birds. I may try to get some blue andulusians from them next week

I looked at their website. They do keep welsumers, but don't offer their hatching eggs. But I would be fine with only the ameraucanas. I can't actually start eggs until early July due to vacation schedule (unless I can get the neighbor's kid to keep an eye on the eggs and turn them. hmmmm), so I will check with them as we get closer. Thanks for the tip! There are plenty of ameraucanas and nice looking easter eggers up in the fertile hatching eggs section of this site, but I guess hatch rates are better for non-shipped eggs. Plus it would be fun to meet local chicken enthusiasts in the real world.

you can call them and they will let you know what hatching eggs they have each day..it changes constantly...but like I said, they are nice guys to work with and have some nice birds.

You should plan to come up this way Aug. 28 for the meet-up also...I'm sure there are going to be some hatching eggs available!
