Thank you so much for all this great information! I have a small incubator and have been trying to hatch quail and duck, it did not come with a Manual, so very difficult to keep the humidity just right - same with the automatic turner. my first batch did not turn, so when candled, the eggs were not viable. the second I managed to hatch one quail, and he was a full week late- I broke the eggs in the compost( lesson learned the first hatch with 3 rotten eggs my goose was sitting on) - what a stench! The eggs exploded on my son and I- and we had to change outside and trying desprettly not to loose our cookies). Any how, the little late quail I heard a chirp just as I cracked it - lucky for me it was plus 30 degrees on this spring day. I was going to leave him there to die - in stead, I brought I’m back in the house where he stayed by himself in the incubator for two days -with a small amount of water (bottom of a red solo shot glass with a few pebbles to keep him from drowning) and food. As I mentioned the incubator humidity was aweful- went up to 100degrees so I dried him under a heat lamp for a long time in my hands, and he stayed in a small container. At 5 days old, I brought him to the garage and inside a small bird cage, I put him in with my 2 week old quail- protected in the same cage. By 3 weeks he was tough enough to hang out with the big quail. So today, I have 8 ducks eggs in the incubator - one is a little dirty- and they are due in 4 days. Wish me luck!
