Hi everyone, I’ve noticed that the center of my incubator is 97.3 degree while the corners and the sides of the turner is at 101.8. And this is when I set the temp of the incubator to 102.5. I try to “balance” the difference.

What would you recommend that I do? Will 101.8 be too high and/or 97.3 be too low? I also plan on rotating the eggs every 3 days or so.

I’m a bit stressed! Please help if you have experience dealing with the cheap styrofoam incubators. Thank you!!!

(I also posted this on the hatch along thread but thought it is a bit of a different topic..)

You probably need some kind of fan in there to circulate the air and even the temperature out. Look up "USB fan" on any place you can buy computer things. You can plug one of those into the base brick piece of a phone charger (the square bit that goes against the wall) to power it. I use mine for terrariums, you can stick yours in there.

Thank you! All three are forced air. Two are forced air by farm innovators, the other one is a LG still air but we installed a fan already. Only the two farm innovators ones are giving us troubles! Ugh

I have a still air, the edges stay pretty low and the center stays pretty high, its just one i built that runs on a lightbulb! I do rotate my eggs but have found the best thing (since its so big i have room) is just to keep the eggs in the ring where the temps are best and not the hot or cold spots... but when i get crazy and have it so full that i use all spots (except never direct under the bulb) i just rotate them as often as i can, since i have to manually turn them 5 times a day anyway i just rotate them from the outside inwards each time and then once during the night too. Seems to work fairly good. I do plan to someday add a fan though!

We only rotate the eggs from the hot and cold spots, and left the eggs at the correct temp along. I really hope it makes a difference. Our last hatch turned out ok but had a number of them died at the end stage..

Probably a good idea. That way at least the ones in the ideal temp zones will make it. That's been my problem too, deaths at the end stages, when my incubator fluxuates alot. Where i live this spring has been crazy and caused all kinds of trouble in my incubator. tuesday it was 90 during the day and tonight is going to be 35. So i have to constantly be checking it every few hours. I hope the weather evens out soon! Let us know how your eggs end up doing
