Hello all, new to both this forum and to incubators. I have made this bator from a styrofoam cooler. My problem is that the aquarium thermometer + my new hygrometer thermometer are giving me higher readings (38-40*C) whilst my black thermometer with a probe that is touching the eggs directly shows 36.3*C. Which one of these do I trust?!? Is it normal for The bator To be a higher temp than the eggs? How much temp difference is it on average? Thanks for reading!

How long have they been in the incubator.
Have you calibrated the thermometers.
They’ve been in the incubator for as long as the eggs have been, which is two days. When I was testing it out without any eggs, both the thermometer which is touching eggs and the fish tank thermometer were the same, but now they’re different (With the eggs)

crushed ice in a container. Just enough water to make the ice float. Break ice apart and stick thermometer into ice water. Should be 32F exactly. If thermometer isn’t waterproof use a bag.

Thank you, so they’ll all automatically go to 32F? And then all be at the same temperatures? Like some sort of reset?!

I appreciate the replies, but I’m still trying to find out if the incubator air temp is supposed to be different from the actual egg temp!!

No. It will tell you if each one is correct, and how far off the temperature is if they are not.

As for the egg temp, your incubator heats up and cools down. The average of this cycle is what object temp should be. Then, cooling from evaporation plays a small role. Your egg temp, seriously guessing, may be a degree F lower at times. What the actual number is, is beyond what I want to figure out.
