Incubator Temperature Problems ! ! (Reptipro)

Loveourbirds : You bring up a good question about the sun getting to them before I collect them. I get the eggs every 3-4 days but with temps getting in the high 80-90s around here and yes the sun will hit them directly I am wondering if maybe the heat is starting the process and then it cools down for hours and then heats up ect before I get to them. I am going to try something new and when I get back from FL I am going to gather them EVERY morning before it gets hot and they would start the process.

TheTropix and Loveourbirds: Y'all are going to laugh but I have 6 thermometers in my incubator lmao ! I got 3 on top and 3 on the middle . They will all read the same , the ones on top and then the ones on the middle. I have also put a glass of water in their and put a aquarium thermometer in there to test the heat of the water and that helps to . I don't believe it's temperature ...but I can look into getting some new thermometers haha ! Oh I also keep 4 in my brooder when I move them lol

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY FOLKS!! LOL @ all the thermometers, yes it sounds funny but I understand. I didn't think about the sun getting to them before you do. I'm outside a lot, so I gather eggs a lot. It's been so hot here (E Texas) I might could have incubated them right on theground. This week we've "cooled" down to the low 90's. Tonight a group of Legbar eggs will move down to the hatch box (Easter basket) in the incubator. Then my last, I think, group of their eggs go in, and there's a middle group that will move down next weekend. Whoever it was, on BYC, that said hatching is like crack is correct!! My husband was telling me that I should stop hatching for a while (and he's right!). Not an hour later, he came in with 3 eggs and said the hen kicked them out of their nest, but he thinks they're alive, so put them in the incubator. We candled and they were kicking around. I asked him about the eggs, and he said But they'll just die! Incubate them. I'm waiting on the last one to give signs of hatching. lol

Loveourbirds, on ebay search for calibrated thermometers and you'll find Friedrich electronics. Really nice people, too.

I found them last night, but I don't like digital. its just a personal preference, I can usually tell when an alcohol thermometer goes bad, electronics can give false readings and you wont know it. on the opposite end of the argument, digital are easier to read.

nothing to be sorry for, its just a preference of mine. most people want digital. my wife and I lived pretty much self sufficient (other than electricity) for 7 years, some of it kind of stuck with me.

when our chickens became more of a business we decided to put the phone back in, and it all went downhill from there
