Incubators Anonymous

Well, I've had my first experience with a bad egg breaking in my incubator :/ I was hoping that it would never happen to me. Thankfully, I found a second bad one before it could blow but now the entire room stinks (my bedroom of course) and since I didn't think to wear gloves (I'm an idiot) my fingers stink. Even after scrubbing them and soaking them in vinegar and baking soda water. I learned a few lessons today I think... hopefully, the bowl of baking soda in the bottom of my bator succeeds at gathering up the rest of the stench.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

As a youngster on a farm, we used to hunt for rotten eggs and throw them to watch them explode in the air (much better than having them explode in the incubator).

Bet that smelled bad.

I can't really smell much at all so rotten eggs are just sorta sour smelling.

Lol, thanks Ralph!

Banty, I think my nose works better than anything else on me since I'm practically blind lol.

I was actualy at a family reunion when it happened and Hubby had no clue why our room stunk so bad. He thought that something died in there or that one of the animals snuck in and pooped somewhere but he couldn't find where. We ran 3 fans all night. I think the smell is pretty much gone now. Yuck!

A lot more than that, This will be lowest rate I have ever had. I hate summer hatches. The humidity is just to hard to control here, because the ambient humidity can change 60 points in a hour.

I am waiting about 3 weeks but, yeah it is too long, but the toad eggs have terrible fertility to start with.

It is hard to be serious about hatching with winter coming and the humidity issue we have here. I run a humidifier in my hatching area, but even that is having a hard time stabilizing the ambient humidity.

Someone please help me understand!! I'm freaking out!!
I have Muscovy eggs in my incubator due to hatch today. I just candled the because they were suppose to hatch early this morning. Some of the eggs weren't completely filled, the bottom of the eggs light up when you put a light to it. I cracked a few of them open and the ducklings were still alive and were completely developed but had a lot of yolk still.
What causes this?
Should I leave the eggs in there longer?
