Incubators Anonymous

Oh, I understand but on the bright side if these are critically endangered chalk this one up to your part in breed preservation!

Hope for a 50% hatch rate, try to buy them as close as you can to your location to keep the shipping times down,
have them shipped on Monday or Tuesday to avoid having them sit over the weekend somewhere.
People advise letting them sit near but not in the incubator from 4 hours to a few days before setting them.
I would recommend 4-8 hours which should be more than enough time for them to settle and stabilize.
Next best advice is ask any and all questions here, someone will surely have something to say.

I've just had a lot of six bresse galoise posted and all six are fertile and wriggling away at day 16 in the incubator
I was sure the post journey would scramble them but they were fine
I sat them ( can't remember which way up) to settle for a day before I incubated them

Excellent point! I have been known to send off Araucana hatching eggs for just the cost of shipping, and give away chicks (locally) for free since they are so hard to hatch. I guess I was just a little miffed to have lost some money rather not making anything at all (which is what usually happens when I send off eggs for free).

Can't u add a minimum that u will take with an auction? Just enough to cover packaging?

The thing is, I was actually expecting more than one bidder. Normally if I list eggs for $0.99, there is some nice action on the auction! Especially with Araucana hatching eggs. Afterwards, I saw that most duck egg auctions were selling for ridiculously low prices. Nice looking pekins or anconas for less than $5.00 for a dozen. Must be a bad time for duck eggs, just no demand?

I guess!! That does seem kinda crazy! I hope someday I have so many extra eggs to be able to do this also!! That would be awesome!!
Btw!! If u get over run with Araucana eggs again, let me know!! I have TERRIBLE luck with shipped eggs, so I don't buy them usually, unless super cheap. I've been doing some swapping just to enjoy hatching new kinds. Lol

I am, just not ones that are very fertile. I think this late spring affected their desire to procreate.

Araucanas are a very difficult breed to hatch through shipped eggs. It is like, they are more delicate and don't handle the stress of shipping as well as other breeds. Even those who are experienced in the ways of the Araucana consider getting a couple chicks out of a dozen eggs a good hatch. Even more is excellent!

One person I gave chicks to had gotten five loads of shipped hatching eggs (from various breeders, all very good ones) and didn't get a single chick. Which is why I was more than happy to provide chicks!

Oh wow!!!! I would probably have NO luck then! Lol

I wish ya'll would've blacked out and bought duck eggs on eBay. I just had an auction for purebred Magpie duck eggs (a critically endangered breed of excellent egg layers) that went for $0.99...plus shipping. I actually lost money on that one after the cost of packaging and eBay fees.

Now I'm going to list them for higher. If they don't sell, then they go into the fridge. No skin off of my nose, but at least I actually make a few bucks off the auction.

sorry I'm not interested in ducks. they sound interesting. maybe post some pics here of them?

I typically ship on either Monday Tuesday or Saturday. rarely will they be close enough to get them next day, Saturday shipping gets there Monday usually.

and I agree about not letting them set too long before incubating. especially this time of year when temps may have already started incubation.

Relieved and overjoyed!

My gosling is starting to come out of "her" shell! I don't thing the nest mate is going to hatch. I thing something terrible happened during lockdown. But, it is just now hatch day, so, we'll see in a couple more days.
