Incubators Anonymous

I swore off shipped eggs for a while but just hatched 9 Seramas from 28 eggs, shipped within Oregon, and I just bought some Ancona duck eggs that shipped today... Some say duck eggs are better shippers... we'll see! It is just a little too easy to buy eggs online!

I look for shippers as close to me as possible though my Anconas are coming from Ohio, the only other choices were NC or PA.

Agreed! Just a simple search and eggs are at your finger tips...order and waiting impatiently for them to arrive...LOL! I also have had a hard time getting eggs shipped that are close to me...seems what I am looking of is always back east somewhere.

Bazy, my eggs come regular mail. Have gotten lotsa eggs only had a few broken, they came from Alabama. They had so many extra I still got a good hatch

How were they packed? Bubble wrap around each egg and double boxed or just a single box? Who did you order from? Someone on here? What did you order? Jeez I simply will not quit asking questions. Sorry.

I may be in trouble..my hoarder neighbor just informed me he has 2- 600 egg incubators and 12 styro's he doesn't use......

Oh that would be most troubling to have such an offer tossed in your face ,,, so how are you going to come up with enough fertile egg's to fill the incubators

So are you going to be able to get all the incubators

Yes the teachers always seem to be excited about it so I try and their equipment is in really good shape so I never understand their problems and my incubator was purchased back in 1997 and used every year so it looks a bit rough all around but works only because it needs too ....

I just think it is more attention to detail and not the egg's .....

Lindab, all the shipments I got this year were individually bubble wrapped. Most from byc members. I go on forums and if someone mentions a kind i want,I private message them. Some have never even shipped before. It is so easy these days, the post office even gives you the boxes. I want to start selling eggs next spring too.

I always wonder if it is room temps that cause problems? In our district, temps are controlled by a main system, so we can not regulate classroom temps. Also, all heat/air conditioning turns off exactly at 3:30 pm everyday and does not turn on at all on the weekends...so classroom temps flex quite a bit

Absolutely spot on. Even at home with my air forced incubator, I have to wrap a towel around the seam at night or the temp will fall by a degree and a half overnight. I threaten everyone in the family that they will experience my wrath if they touch the thermostat while I'm incubating. The room temperature GREATLY affects the temperature of a manual thermostat type incubator in my experience.

Thanks so much for your input...so should I wrap a towel around the seam before going home each day to avoid temps falling at night? My bators are still air.
