Isn't there anywhere close you can get eggs from?
I know someone in your area. If you want, I can PM him for you and see what comes of that? LMK. =)
YES...please do!!!!

I have only found one person so far and did not have a very good experience with chicks or eggs. 6 of 8 eggs I got from her were clear and of the remaining 2...only one hatched and that chick died one week later.....not sure what happened. I went back to get 4 day old chicks and 2 of the four died also at one week...all the same breed so not sure what happened

I just got eight eggs shipped (they were from a friend).
The postal carrier tipped the box while I was standing there. I (jokingly obsessively) said, "Don't tip that, it's my hatching eggs." She said she'd read that and just kept tipping it.

One had an obviously loose air cell. The rest looked okay, the air cell is hard for me to see b/c of how I have to hold the flashlight to candle and how small my hands are, etc. Anyway, I waited until morning to set them.
I candled on day 3 (Friday night). It looks like all the aircells were loose; although none of them were actually detached. There are two I can't see through well, so I'm holding out hope for those two. Otherwise, only the one with the obviously loose air cell looks like it's developing (but it might be developing a blood ring). IDK. I kind of candled again last night (day 4), but I did it in the living room with the lamp on. Tonight, I'll take them into the girls bedroom (or my bathroom) and candle them after dark. Hopefully, there are veins in at least some of them and hopefully the one keeps developing. I'm hoping for some pretty egg layers, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to find eggs locally.

I don't think the USPS takes it seriously when you write hatching eggs on the box. KWIM? I think they figure they're wrapped up well for a reason. I think that eggs shipped for eating are treated better than eggs shipped for hatching. KWIM? Ugh! I'll stop complaining now. I'm sorry.

I'm just irritated b/c I know I should get a better development rate than one out of eight, or even three out of eight, from these eggs.
They were packaged well though.
Awww..so sorry

and so frustrating

especially when your are waiting anxiously to get your eggs and so excited to hatch them, I honestly think most of the time they don't even read the box! And if they do, they assume that the eggs are packed or supposed to be packed well enough to survive anything...if not its your problem because they should be
hmm.png
My batch of shipped eggs were packed really well and even then one broke, and rest had loose aircells and were quitters...so sad
sad.png
Hopefully yours will make it to hatch! I know a lot of people have success with shipped eggs so it is possible

What type of eggs are you incubating?

I know our post office didn't read the box at all. The breeder who carefully packaged & drove the eggs straight to her post office wrote: HOLD FOR PICK UP with my ph# on the box. My PO of course threw them on the truck b/c I saw "out for delivery" when I checked the status online. I called the PO & they said it should arrive at my house soon. (.....but the box was scanned at 6am & my mail had already come.) The post master actually caught up with the truck & personally delivered the box to me. The eggs got an extra 8 hours in a bouncy truck, but they did make here. I got a 60% hatch rate.

The second time I ordered eggs (from a different & closer source) they were dropped off on my front porch on a rainy day. The "Hold for pick Up" was not as obvious & kind of blurred. I'm not sure how long they were outside. That hatch was my worst ever! Every air cell was detached & rolled around like a bubble. I did everything I could to increase my odds. 8 out of 12 were alive on day 18, but only one hatched.

Perhaps if we write something generic like "Fragile scientific materials" the boxes will get better treatment. No one would want to spill or break an unknown substance.

Thanks for the sympathy! Yeah, that seems to be the attitude the take. :(
Thanks! Several different kinds of -bars (Isbar, Legbar, and Isbar-Legbar cross) and BCM. (2 green, 2 blue, and 3 brown). I also had a SFH, but she came cracked (that's a lot, USPS) and I cracked it worse moving it Sunday, so I ended up having to toss it before I got egg inards on the outards of the other eggs.

I candled today and five of the seven others have definite veins and the other two look like they might be good too.

60% is better than the usual 50% for shipped eggs.

about the second hatch!!!
I like that idea!!! "Fragile scientific materials" sounds like something you wouldn't want to spill or break, no matter what it is.
