I just got eight eggs shipped (they were from a friend).
The postal carrier tipped the box while I was standing there. I (jokingly obsessively) said, "Don't tip that, it's my hatching eggs." She said she'd read that and just kept tipping it.
One had an obviously loose air cell. The rest looked okay, the air cell is hard for me to see b/c of how I have to hold the flashlight to candle and how small my hands are, etc. Anyway, I waited until morning to set them.
I candled on day 3 (Friday night). It looks like all the aircells were loose; although none of them were actually detached. There are two I can't see through well, so I'm holding out hope for those two. Otherwise, only the one with the obviously loose air cell looks like it's developing (but it might be developing a blood ring). IDK. I kind of candled again last night (day 4), but I did it in the living room with the lamp on. Tonight, I'll take them into the girls bedroom (or my bathroom) and candle them after dark. Hopefully, there are veins in at least some of them and hopefully the one keeps developing. I'm hoping for some pretty egg layers, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to find eggs locally.
I don't think the USPS takes it seriously when you write hatching eggs on the box. KWIM? I think they figure they're wrapped up well for a reason. I think that eggs shipped for eating are treated better than eggs shipped for hatching. KWIM? Ugh! I'll stop complaining now. I'm sorry.
I'm just irritated b/c I know I should get a better development rate than one out of eight, or even three out of eight, from these eggs.
They were packaged well though.
