Can you still see veins in the membrane? It sounds like it is being shrink wrapped.. that is not good. Once the membrane dries out the chick can't break through it. I would wrap the egg in a warm damp paper towel to get the humidity up really high around that egg and keep the membrane from drying out. Hopefully it can break through it.

i had punched a hole in the air sac end yesterday to see if i could see movement and did in this egg only(2 others were dead). I put tape over the hole and when I checked it today the membrane was basically white. I tried to open the hole a little more to see if I could see the veins as it all looked white to me, when I did a big piece of the shell came off and scrapped the membrane causing it to bleed. I put flour on it right away to stop the bleeding and put just a few drops of water on the membrane and there are veins everywhere! I am now at a complete loss as to what I should do. The little chick is still alive and moving. I put it back in the incubator with a wet paper towel around it. Any advice would be good.

yeah, i have one from TSC too..the foam ones with the egg turner. it does not have as high a hatch rate as my brinsea..but the cost is much less..and if you keep your eye on the temp..and like she said above..piddle with it for a couple days before you get the eggs in it to make sure it's maintaining the temp, it works fairly well.

ok so now day 24, i still have the one chick that refuses to hatch. I removed the tape and checked again and you can see the heartbeat movement through the membrane and see it moving. I am a little concerned as it is later than the others and it seems the membrane looks "tighter" today. Almost form fighting.
I concur with the previous post to this issue. I had one shrink wrapped yesterday. Zipped all over the place, but obviously stuck to the membrane. I wrapped it in warm damp paper towel and placed in the foot traffic of the other hatchling. When I woke up this morning I had another chick, but not that one. So, I re-applied the warm damp paper towel (the shell practically fell apart in my hand, but still stuck to membrane) and within a half hour with the foot traffic of 2 hatchlings it decided to give it one last shot and burst forth from the membrane. It looks pretty healthy right now! Good luck!

I am also using the LF Styrofoam incubator from TSC. It was a little fussy during the setting stage, but not enough that it drove my bonkers. During lockdown and hatching it has faithfully maintained temperature and humidity. I do however have it for lockdown and hatching in a smallish bathroom where I can periodically run the shower for some warm steam.

Well I am sad to say the little chick didn't make it. Not sure what happen as I was keeping an eye on it. Went in to check on it and it was no longer moving. So is life I guess.

So sorry...I know how you feel. In my last hatch, I lost 5 fully formed chicks on hatch day. They had been moving around and just didn't pip or anything. I felt terrible about it. Have since decided my humidity was a tad high. This hatch is lower. I had one that was shrunk wrapped and I helped it out. She is a runt, but doing ok. She is a wheaten marans I named Hershey (for those dark chocolate looking eggs). Anyway, I am sorry for your lost.

I'm back . . . becaue my incubator is full . . . again! Figured I would fit right in with you all!

Turkeys, both sweet grass and bourbon reds
Buff ORpingtons
Speckled Susssex

I went to a sale last month and sold a lot of chicks-- that means I can hatch more, right??
