Incubators Anonymous

We are on day 22 and 1 of 6 got out yesterday morning. The remaining 5 have not pipped, movement seems to have stopped, and I no longer hear any chirping. How long do I wait before I give up on them?
Thanks
WHen chirping stops, either they are napping or they have passed away.

I often candle to see who has interanlly pipped, then once chirping startsb ut no progress I open the shell a tiny bit after about 12 hours. I can't wait any longer, I"m inpatient, lol, longer is better of course but well, I just cant wait.

SOme people help others do not. THe eggs will go cold when the chick has died.

I'm back . . . becaue my incubator is full . . . again! Figured I would fit right in with you all!

Turkeys, both sweet grass and bourbon reds
Buff ORpingtons
Speckled Susssex

I went to a sale last month and sold a lot of chicks-- that means I can hatch more, right??

Welcome Back! You fit in even when you don't have eggs in the bator! You just having some catching up to do.... on hatching!

Thanks for the welcome Donna, I have more coops to build as I have added turkeys and I'm determined to kick the chicks out of the house a little sooner thisyear. I had all of 4 months withour chicks in the house and boy did I love it. I can't do dishes after sundown or else I keep the little babies awake. lol

Yah, it was a lesson learned. During the eggtopsy I learned my humidity was to low.I did get 2 very cute speckled sussex and hopefully at least 1 is a girl.

yes, i have a few of the tsc incubators, they work fine with a little practice and care. I've hatched lots of chicks and lost some to my own impatience or ignorance. I have mine set up in a spare room where I can keep the window covered and the rooms temperature reasonably stable and warm. I just followed the directions here, set the bator up per included instructions, let it get to and maintain 99.5 degrees, add no water, make sure the egg turner is working, if you will be using one, set the eggs in, close the lid and forget it for seven days (candling day)! They are great to start with if you don't want to invest a lot of money at the beginning. Compared with my neighbors hatch rate in her expensive cabinet bator, I win. Best wishes on your hatch

I just went into a Fancy Cigar shop in Downtown Dallas (boy was I out if place) to ask about Hygrometers and he said "Cigar Oasis" (online) has a whole system with fans and everything that is pretty reasonable, that would handle a large cabinet. He also said to try Radio Shack, never would have thought of them.

Wow Arielle, 4 mo?? What happened? Someone unplug your bators?
I had an Easter hatch (38 of 41 dancing) My last hatch was just after Thanksgiving. I was lucky since DH got a call on Dec 15 for a new Kidney!! Now DH and DS are looking at plans for a cabinet!!! DH is going to faint if all the Duck eggs I picked up around the lake at work hatch. HaHa i'll just name them Dinner!! (Well except the Whistlers if there are any, Melissa Rose needs them. )
