Incubators Anonymous

Well, I've done it. I ordered another genesis incubator and turner off Amazon this morning lol. I tried so hard to hold out!! I ordered it 2 nights ago and then immediately cancelled it. Now I'm wishing I wouldn't have cancelled! It would already be in the mail. I have 2 more batches of shipped eggs arriving tomorrow for setting on Saturday. I ordered 4 dozen eggs from different sources, received 2 sets today, and everyone sent lots of extras!! They won't fit in my good incubator and I hate putting shipped eggs in the Little Giant. :( Sooo....my addiction has cost me $200 already today! I just hope it gets here Monday! I might have to start them in the LG and switch out when the good one gets here and gets regulated.

Quote: No I have hatched a few.... 1 was black with a spot on its head but I had to sell them. She said she would send me pics as it grew. I knew you wanted barred EE to make sex links.... those will be perfect! I need to hatch me some for next spring.

I need immediate help. My DD had sent me chicken and duck eggs at the same time not realizing the ducks took a week longer. So, the chicks hatched last Saturday. I thought I did a good job at quickly taking out the chicks and opened shells. Then continued with the duck eggs. Well, today I noticed bacteria growing on the inside of the bator.....from the small pieces of egg shell that had fallen into the grate. I am soooo concerned that these little ducks are going to die before they are hatched! Two started pipping today, but day 28 isn't until Sat! So, does anyone have a suggestion for an emergency hatcher? Can I put these eggs somewhere for even an hour while I clean out the bator really quickly? I have laid awake for hours now worrying! Has anyone ever tried a crock pot? LOL? I am desperate to save these ducks! Can I wrap the eggs up in a moist towel and put it under a heat lamp just long enough to fix the bator? Any suggestions?????

I hope somebody with more experience than I have is still awake, but my mother has hatched chicken eggs by putting them under her shirt next to her stomach. They hatched. I think the warm slightly damp towel and heat lamp for just long enough to clean it up would work. I don't think the crock pot would stay cool enough - and you don't want to "cook" them. Put a thermostat in there so you can keep checking the temperatures... and GOOD LUCK!

yes you can

so dont freak.

Make sure its fairly warm so they dont lose too much heat but people have power outages all the time.

I would wrap the eggs in some dry towels to keep them warm and wash the bator with soap and water.

dry the bator as well as you can with paper towels

If you have some copper pennies, place them in the water wells and they will prevent mold or bacteria coming back during the few days left

So I did it....took only about 10 minutes, but when I candled the eggs, I only saw movement in 2 of the 5.. but I did it quickly, so I don't know. Maybe the bacteria in there already killed them.....I guess I will know in a day or two. Thanks, Oz. I guess I will try to get some sleep. I did all I can do.

Hi my name is Blake I'm from Fairbanks Alaska and I just started incubating my first eggs.
6 BLRW
And
4 mixed heritage breed turkeys.

I have one question about each.

Okay so i set all of my BLRW eggs on the same day (the 27th) at the same time and I candled on day 7 which is today. I saw one egg with obvious progress one with maybe some veins and the rest seem just as clear as the day I put them in the bator.
The question is this. All these clear eggs are they just a little behind the progressed egg and might take a little more time or should all the eggs be at the same point by now?
Basically should I crack open the clear eggs and check for fertility or leave them in the bator?

Question for the turkeys which days do I candle them? Like with chickens you candle on the 7th day excreta.
Would turkeys be like the 10th day?
