Congrats on your chickees

At what age can you sex them?
Bought my Acurite hygrometer/thermoter at TSC on clearance for $2.95. Warning: DO NOT let the adhesive on the back of the hygrometer/thermometer get on your eggs. It will pull the outside of the egg off.

I need to learn to sex day olds , but so far I just wait and see.:p

I put 6 under my broody bantam cochin last night! What a jerk she is, going broody when I have 31 2 week old chicks in the back room, and 5 brand new chicks in the dining room.

Impress, did your cochin call my silkie? I put 5 under my silkie, not sure how many she has under her. I will check in a few days. I have 7 in the bator, 24 shipping in a week, and 4 in the brooder!

Well I am hoping to get some eggs set but every time I send someone to the store to get the thermometer that i need they keep coming back with the wrong one. This time hubby came home with one that resets it's self every 24 hours lol.
I wmas in a hurry to get them set because the lady who gave me the eggs was giving me her chickens too and was not sure when I would have them here. But now that they are here I may not worry about it. If I can get to town and get the right one then I will go aheadnand set them. Itnwill be about 20 of them.
Lavender buffs, buffs, and probably a few of my mutts.
Silkies should be laying soon here in a month or 2 I am hoping.

Hahaha, we are dedicated chicken Mamas aren't we? My cochin probably called your silkie and was all, "Let's hatch babies NOW! You and me, we got this!"

Putting the eggs under her was so cute, I took the fake eggs and she growled. I put the saved eggs, 2, under her, and she kind of sighed and squished herself around. Then I added 2 more. More happy sighing and squishing. Then I put the last two under her and got stink eye. Maybe I'm too ambitious.

I still have eggs in the bator due in a week and a half and set 8-9 more last sunday too. Now I have to plan who to put in what pen with what roo.... what to hatch after Christmas when I have time. I need a break after all this building anyway. May have some more birds coming.... BR roo and BBS AM (do I need AM really? probably

Hi Donna, glad to see you are still hatching. Sounds like your incubator is working well!!

I'm here to confess that I'm back to incubating. A BO hen went missing a few days ago and though we thought she had become coyote food, I am happy to report that she has been found. In a quiet out of the way place, sitting on 13 eggs!!!! Based on the color of the eggs, many of my hens contributed to the clutch! THe green egg is not hers. I was happy to see her but not what she was doing!

I'll start up the incubator again, to have it ready just in case. She is in a fairly safe place. WHen I picked her up and took her away she was determined to returen. Don't mess with MOther Nature! Certainly the nest is warm and comfy and protected by the horses. My mare won't let a coyote near her!

I'm back in the game!!!

Hello, I'm Patty, and I think I may have started a new obsession. This looked like the right place to be. You see, my first incubator arrived in the mail today. I am calm enough to wait 24 hours to get humidity and temperature perfect.

BUT... AFTER THAT.... I THINK IT WILL BE DANGEROUS TO LEAVE ANY EGGS NEAR ME.

I may not survive....

Is it wrong to want to squeeze more eggs out of my serama hen?
