Okay I am pretty sure that any hatching problems I am having has nothing to do with my incubator. Out of the 41 eggs I had in there I have had to take 10 out due to early demise, blood ring or infertility.
Here are the stats right now though.
1. Stacy Tate eggs: 14 shipped one broken on arrival, one stinker, one early death probably like day 4 or 5, 3 blood rings (one looked cracked so wonder if it dried out) and two infertile.
That leaves me with 9 eggs with babies growing in them that are all on track for lockdown on the 20th.
2. Nancy Garry eggs: 12 were shipped all arrived safely three were early quitters day 1 or 2 had veining but then lost it and didn't develop and three were blood rings (one I think was a twin or triplet there were three black spots in the middle and a blood ring from them around the egg.)
That leaves 6 eggs with babies that are on track to hatch in a little over a week.
3. Last but not least I stuck 16 of my eggs into the mix just because I was curious about fertility. Last candling I marked a bunch with ? because I wasn't sure if they were on track (I couldn't see any movement in the egg but could see lots of veining) Today is day 11 and I see great big babies who have the hiccups and are moving like crazy.
All of these eggs are growing and on track the only 2 I am concerned with are overly large pullet eggs and the eggs might be too big to hatch out.
So that is 16 out of 16 so far growing and on track to hatch.
And yes once again I am a confirmed addict. I love the science of hatching eggs and increasing my hatching percentage. I also love taking care of and "taming" the little babies so when they grow up they follow everyone around the yard. It freaks some people out though lol.
The sure sign that I am an addict was when my friend said that she thought she should send my profile into the show Animal Hoarders on Animal Planet. She said you started out with the idea to just get a few chickens for eggs and now you have so many that you are selling the eggs and eating the chickens and yet you are still hatching.
I tried to tell her I can't be a hoarder because I don't hatch every egg, I do sell some of the roosters and hens and heck.....well I guess I am kind of a hoarder lol.
but so in a good way no animals were harmed in the support of my addiction.
