Welcome to mother hood to my partridge silkie although he has no brothers or sisters. I had four fertile eggs, I left one with its mother and the other 3 in the incubator. The incubator eggs have not hatched and i followed all the guidelines. I guess nothing beats a broody hen. I have the incubator inside but one day it was 45 degrees C, when i got home from work the incubator and beeping and temp was around 40.5 degrees. This little chick was born 2 days ago, the eggs in the incubator after candling has no indications growth or movement. Still see the fur and there mass is about half the size of the egg. They were due on the 7th of jan and the hot day happened on new years eve. Is there any chance the poor little fella's may still be alive?

The conversion to F I don't know.... I KNOW I keep mine at 37.5- 38.8 depending on the time of year (harder to keep heat in the winter) So 45 would have cooked them.... it looks like the time would have been about right a week ago. Sorry.

Looked that up....about 113.... yeah 102-103 would have killed them for any extended length of time.....

As i feared I should be happy that one survived. I forgot to mention that the bigger eggs are not due till the 18th so there is still hope. Though keep in mind that is the figures for the temperature of the egg internally. But it was cooking in the incubator for at least 9 hours that day when i worked. Funny that after all that, the Broody silkie was about to keep it alive. People have told me sometimes a broody hen is better than a incubator and now i believe them.

people "still air" at 102 which is fine for still air. that is what I keep my homemade incubators at as I should they come out fine.

I don't have a still air homemade bator. mine has air circulating and they hatch early to one time when I keep it at 99-100. 102 would kill them in mine.

his was 113 for 9 hours.....they are cooked.

this is the second time I have seen this comment for 102.....but I don't have still air bator. don't trust them.

How Beautiful id love to have silkies but i think the fuzzy tops would be too much of a teaser for my pixie bobs they protect the quail as it is but these beautiful birds look too much like a toy i love them they are so pretty .
