Incubators Anonymous

I started off with Gold Comets and I never planned on hatching any of their eggs because they really aren't that meaty. They do have a rooster in with them because they came with a rooster and I didn't want to get rid of him and I knew he was doing his job but I really was only going to hatch my Brahmas and Dellys because they are good meat birds. Then I got to wondering what Comet babies would look like. Since they were hybrid they could look like just about anything. Curiosity got the better of me and I threw 15 in this last incubator. After all I only had 25 Dellys hatching in that batch so I needed 15 more eggs to make the incubator full.

I think that it all sounds logical. My husband just rolls his eyes and shakes his head lol

I miss the eggs a bit but have to say I enjoy a break from the incubator duties in the Fall and Winter

Wow... everyone must be busy incubating/candling/hatching... 8)
good news, i've got 3 bantams pipped.

but none of the dorkings have even gone to drawdown yet!

so now i'm worried that by cranking up the humidity for lockdown, they may be too wet. but i did a dry incubation at 20-22% humidity, so i guess if they haven't lost enough by now...
the EE's have draw down (one has air all the way on one side, almost to the pointy end. gotta keep an eye on that one in case he tries to pip on the bottom.
but all 3 bantams pipped almost the same time, all in the same spot. 8) i candled last night and saw internal pip so expected that by this morning.

when i go to lunch i'm going to put a webcam on the 'bator so i can keep an eye on it while i'm working. otherwise i'm going to be useless on the phone. LOL

Yay!! Mine are locking down tonight. I separated the different chick eggs so I can put them in different brooders. Was hoping to put my dellys in with my three week old brahmas but I am thinking the brahmas are way too big now. I just need to feed them less I guess. Hopefully we all do well hatching.

Good luck everyone!!

laid down for a nap for a bit, webcams in place so i could check when i woke up... had one zipping, came down and watched him finish zipping and shove on out.

I don't think I could do it. I have a coop of just layers and my daughter came to me last weekend and said "I feel guilty eating these eggs I cooked, don't those eggs need to go in the bator too?" I'm rubbing off on her.

My layer flock isn't laying SQUAT!

I have one very old Buff Orpington hen, J.T. that is the only one laying. She is giving me an egg a day. Whereas the very young pullets are not laying momma squat!! Why did I sell my flock of Buff Orpingtons again??
