ok... hatch finished saturday night, hatcher torn down and cleaned sunday, back up and running, up to temp/humidity last night... and eggs back in to hatch again. 9 bantams this time. 2 laid by my quail d'anvers "owl", 3 by my silver duckwing oegb "ducky", and 4 by my dark brahmas "the stooges" (all bantam btw).

all fertile, developing nicely, and when i moved them over, 2 had already internally pipped... but then again they were started by a broody, so may have been laid over a few days. i pulled them and put in the 'bator on day 5 (ish). i figured today to be day 18 but guess i might have been off on a couple. one of ducky's eggs has pipped already.

her chicks so far have been TEENY tiny little things, half black japanese (babies also black). the first one to hatch is named "one of 15" aka 'borg' for the odd patch over his/her eye...

I hatched 5 RIR tonight, had 4 this morning. I moved one big tray into the Hatcher and put another in the cabinet. I need to build another cabinet. Once spring hits I am going to need to be able to hatch MORE!:-D

ok... do you raise them all? sell them? hatch for other people? (that's an idea! hatch for others and make money at it too!)

for those who hatch and sell chicks, do you ship or sell local only? how much do you sell them for? (if you sell them at all?)

I raise some for myself, but mostly I sell day old chicks to people. I get orders for up to 300 chicks ! Of course, I can't supply that many at once. I get about three dozen hatching eggs a day. There is a feed store that gives my name to people wanting chicks. Right now I am finishing up one guys order for RIR, then I have an order for ee, then more RIR. I also post ads in feed stores and distribute cards at swaps and sales. Plus I sell hatching eggs. I used to try and raise pullets to sell, but it costs too much in feed to make a profit by the time you raise them. I do grow out some silkies to sell, they don't eat as much. Oh, and I post on CL as well. Hatch on!:) oh yeah, I start prices at $1 per chick for common breeds like BR and RIR, more for rarer breeds like polish and silkies.

I just bought some Silkie's and Sizzle's in the auction. (eggs) I had to google the whole Sizzle thing. I'm getting interested in their genetics. Very confusing! I feel like I'm in high school Biology again.

I am going to try to hatch for others and see what happens... I am going to charge $.25 for each egg I set and $1 for each live chick... What do ya think?

Chicks day old straight run of my prod reds and my rocks $3 but some other breeds will be more. But I think most will be $3 maybe $2.50 if they get more than 10.

BTW Cattitude... I have some of they Lav AM growing out that you were
