Incubators Anonymous

If I were to go with a coolerbator, re-read sally's article on it and it doesn't look like it was as difficult as I thought, could the eggs be turned before work (5:30), get home from work (6:00 ish) and before bed (9:30-10ish) ?? I mean, it is three times right

.

You can do that when you're turning an odd number of times per day. Each side will be "up" about the same average length of time.

A little confused, wouldn't the one side be facing up all day and all night? Or is that the idea?

For simplicity, I'll round off the times. Let's say they are marked with X on one side, and O on the other.

Day 1: X up from 6pm to 6 pm, that's 12 hours.
O up from 6 to 10 that's 4 hours.

X up overnight (10 to 6) that's 8 hours.

Day 2: O up from 6pm to 6 pm, that's 12 hours.
X up from 6 to 10 that's 4 hours.

O up overnight (10 to 6) that's 8 hours.

Over a 48 hour period:
X was up 12 + 8 + 4 hours = 24 hours out of 48 hours
O was up 4 + 12 + 8 hours = 24 hours out of 48 hours

It works out that way if you're turning an odd number of times a day. An even number (2 or 4 times a day), wouldn't work because one side would be up more than the other side.

I see, I see, was having a duh moment there I guess lol. I blame it on the fact that its not Friday yet, been waiting four days for it already and its still not here!

So just let the broody hen out of her box and noticed some of eggs are cold!! I waited till she went back in and got herself situated and realized that there's no way all will be able to fit under her even though she's a brahma.....not sure where she was stuffing them this morning. So I took half and stuffed them in my incubator, but the eggs that are in there are going into lockdown on Wednesday. So I decided to get http://www.amazon.com/Farm-Innovato...092&sr=8-1&keywords=farm+innovators+incubator to use as a hatcher. Just hope two days is enough time to get everything set right!

I had one but it died.... I knew I needed to turn them an odd number of times but that third time almost NEVER happened for some reason so 1 time a day it is. My son was going to try to fix that issue with an cordless drill that didn't have a battery anymore. He has if fixed up to work just not wired up or on a timer. He wants to use an electronic control board of some sort. I am in no hurry to rush him. One time a day is working just fine. If my hatches go up I don't know were I will put them LOL.
