Incubators Anonymous

So I noticed today that with my Coolerbator, the temp is spot on when the thermometer isn't under the bulbs but is 102 when it is.....should I be worried about this? I have three in there and they all behave the same way. the fan is partially on and below the bulb.

the only way to really tell is to measure the egg temp but short of that rotate the eggs around the bator when you turn them.

what size are your bulbs?

I've just started my incubator for the first time!! I'm so excited putting the eggs in tomorrow, 6 cuckoo marans 6 bcm and 6 blue marans

They're 40 watt. Wonder if I put a zip lock baggy with water under one and take the temp if that would work.

That's the great thing about Midget Whites. They stay little.

I will be looking for some midget whites' eggs in July for my big hatch next hatch.

I reckon they will be the perfect turkey for a small family at Christmas once I establish a flock.

Mondays setting has medium breasted bronze, blacks and whites as well as heritage bourbon reds.

Hi @LeviS

I can start off with a question because this image does not show me what I am looking for......

the fan placement is where most people mess up.

The fan must be placed so that it blows under the bottom of the lights so that the heat doesnt stick at the light bulbs and is sent around the bator no just under them, so what you need is the fan air to blow on the bulbs AND 1.5" est below them or you will have HOT SPOTS under them, if you have room to do what I do (see the pattern in the images below

) But I have no problem filling them all under the lights, (didnt post those images though) ANYONE INCUBATING in ANY bator should move eggs around in the bator at least on candle days! I have .76 degree difference from front to back of my coolers, not that big of a deal but I incubate at higher temps than 99.5 so I dont have wiggle room, so its best that I use the space in the front where temps are all the same. Since we made the Cabinet Coolerbator for incubating, I now use my reg coolers for hatchers and temps are alot lower than incubation so I fill them up all over inside for hatching. Good Luck!

I think my fan placement is just about at that, I'll try and get a better photo of the bulb placement tonight. I have it so that the center of the fan is about level with the bottom of the bulb. I have been turning eggs by putting a couple phone books under one side...maybe I should go back to tilting the entire carton individually instead and rotating them in the process.

well, knock on wood, the incubators getting unplugged hasn't slowed down the coturnix one bit... 22 eggs (of 22) made it to lockdown, and so far I think most of them have hatched.

now to wait on my sfh and blrw to do their thing. (crossing fingers)
