I have coturnix, which i recommend due to their calm nature. I do not recommend hatch and release, it may even be illegal in some states. If you were planning to do that, i would suggest a native species like bobwhite. They are much more aggressive towards each other, and more flighty.

See... I need to read BEFORE I get them..... gives me time to build a pen. Are they cold hardy? I can keep them in my shop if needed.

legal or otherwise, coturnix are NOT broody so releasing them would just be a death sentence, since they would lay lots of eggs that never hatch and they'd just die out.

i had them, raised a couple generations, couldn't hardly give them away so i ate the rest.

I sold ALL my EE pullets a couple of BR pullets and some roos to go with them
