Sorry to hear about your Marans roo, Donna. I hatched one from my flock I got from you, and I plan to split the flock so I can put him with half the hens.
This waiting for chicks to hatch for the first time since fall sucks. I am also waiting for eggs from the Easter hatch along. And I am waiting for the last two does to kid. I hate suspense.

I just set 3 doz from him the other day... what did I have to lose... they may not be fertile but I tried.

Hope you get some pretty weather soon to work on it. It has been raining and snowing.... just messy the last few days here too.

Sorry I missed this earlier! He was very handsome.. so sorry you lost him, Donna! I hope that lots of those eggs hatch for you.

personally, if it's a wood 'bator, i would hold off using it, and put severall good coats of polyurethane or varnish of some sort on the interior, to keep the wood from soaking up the humidity. (let it cure for a couple weeks in an open area with the door wide open, to prevent any fumes, then run it for a few days to a week to make sure the coating has cured and is still not producing any more fumes.

Except one of the reasons I've been told these redwood bators are the best is the fact that they soak up that humidity which helps keep it steadier when you open the door. Besides that I live in the desert and the humidity in my house is 16%. This bator sat in a garage for I don't know how many years in an even drier area so I knew it would be sucking up water for a bit.
