I've had the same eggs pipped in the hatcher since this morning.. chirping away.. come ON already! There is no way I'll sleep tonight.. actually slept last night so I'm ahead of the game for at least two days. Just need more coffee and a good flashlight.![]()
It can be a blessing that the hatching is going on at the farm.... I sleep just fineI put mine in lockdown today and they were already pips in my wheatens. I think today is day 19 1/2 when I put them in. This is going to be my biggest hatch yet this year. Most are sold. I set 180 eggs, not sure how many made it but I would think 120+ and most were shipped eggs.![]()
GNH, Buff Fav, and a mixed lot with CCL, LC, LS..... mine were Sexlinked marans, Wheatens (23) Lavs, BLRW Choc Wyandottes, BR, reg NH, SBEL, ... I wish I could remember I know there are several others.
Must get that bigger brooder ready TOMORROW..... my time is UP with this hatch. I bet I have about 120-150 chicks in my incubator room now and more hatching. My next hatch should be a little smaller I only set 120 egg for that one... I think I slowed down after that.
Nah, when they start hatching then run around and do itI set another 60 eggs today,a mix of red and black sexlinks. My first hatches of the year will start next Saturday, maybe I should think about putting the brooder together.
Poor Buffy! As much as they love babies, she may be over whelmed. I'd say 14 max and that's if she has a wide skirt and the nights aren't too bad. You may have to put the rest under your pillow. Tee hee.ok, how many chicks can a broody handle by herself? i gave the 2 broodies 13 babies each and all seemed to be going well, then one of them decided she'd had enough. checked on the nest and all 26 babies are trying to climb under/over my buff orp momma... she's doing great but i know that's too many for her. so how many could i leave with her realistically? i've had a bantam do 15 bantam babies, so i know that's possible just trying to get an idea of upper limit.
