Incubators Anonymous

Oh boy. I got this link in my email today and thought : "they are on to me"!

I hatched 9 batches last spring/summer. Put the bator away and swore no hatching until 2013. My first 2013 hatch happened on 12/22/12....then one on 01/09/13, 16 batches later (this season) I have 28 hens, 16 teenagers in the garage, 23 chicks in my front room, 42 eggs due to hatch next week, 36 eggs in the mail, have sold 142 chicks, with another expansion going on in my run. I really am not keeping as many as it sounds, but the hatching is just so fun. Except the 15 trips to dump shavings out of waterers per day..... (and the giant blackhole in my budget from buying shipped eggs that "sort of" hatch...)

I do not have a problem do I? I have only sworn that "This is my last batch this season" 3 times.

Ok, fine, "Hi my name is Lisa and I am a hatchaholic....."

Welcome new people to this thread!! To make you feel better, I have 4 styro bators and three home made bators. I hatch eggs on two continents and have 300+ eggs in incubators spread over 7500 miles but a capacity for 600. I have 272 eggs planned for travel with me in May. I am building another 120 egg bator this weekend

My name is Oz and I am a hatchaholic

I think Oz deserves a special prize as being the biggest hatchaholic amongst us! Sure, some others might have a few more incubators or set more eggs at a time, but do they do it in two countries 7500 miles apart???? Do they hand carry eggs onto airplanes in specially designed packaging material? Carefully planned to avoid being xrayed and hand checked only? LoL! Luv ya Oz!

Mrs Oz has confirmed that she will be here may 5 - 15

Its also her Birthday today!! She just got the 3 dozen roses I sent and is going out to dinner with her family tonight. Its tough to be apart fro times like this.

Mrs Oz says she wont mind taking back a box of eggs in her golf bag. I can get one styrobator full - 42 in a box.

Now I have to pour over my notes on what to send. If I get super fresh local eggs she will have 4 days to get them to the farm and bernie to set. Maybe its a good time for 24 cuckoo marans and 18 white ameraucana to get the colored egg layers started - or maybe 42 white local guinea fowls - or perhaps 24 turkey eggs. oh my, such decisions. It does not really matter because I get to see my best friend and soul mate for 10 days and 10 nights - 243 hrs actually!!

I have my very own enabler

what happy news for you Oz! It must be really hard to be apart so much of the time. When will you be able to settle down in one place?

Hi, I am Jeanie and addicted to hatching...I am hatching old english bantams, old english pyle bantams, black copper marans, silkies, cochins, farvorelle's, frizzles, now friends are stopping by asking can I hatch eggs for them. I keep telling everyone this is it my incubator and hatcher will be turned off when everything has hatched. It has not been off for 24 months lol. I am totally addicted. But I mean it this time when everything hatches out I'm done or at least I'll try, lol.

you only live life once. you gotta have a good crack at it

I too feel I am an incubating addict. I started out with 3 hens and a rooster. and one laid eggs to set on. then they hatched. I was So excited.. I bought 1 hobovator and filled it to the Max with Eggs from the rest of the girls. Some were too old and didn't grow, but I still manages to assist in the fathering of many a chickens. I later went to the hardware store and picked out another system.both of the incubators drove me nuts. I had so many eggs any didn't know what to do. Frustrated I decided to get 2 more. and wouldn't you know it. I am building them now to raise more. all came from the idea of old dressers in my shop. but really I am addicted. if so! Please like this page

i cant say i am a addict but i am shore close. i have a GQF 1270 and i am going to buy another cabinet soon. i also started my own flock of booted beaded belgain D'Uccle, i have self blue, mille fleur, and porcelains and i would love to have blue mf and golden necks. i also incubate emu eggs, guinea eggs, goose eggs, peafowl eggs, and duck eggs as well. i love hatching eggs it is a passion of mine. i only have been doing it for 3 years, and i wish i started a long time ago. it is so amazing how hatching works. they are truely gifts from God. if i had the money and time i would buy some big petersime incubators and start a hatchery. but i have a full time job and a lot of other farm animals. incubators are awesome

Hi, my name is Kim and I am a hatchaholic. I have silkies who I use as incubators every time one goes broody, and then there are the two incubators I this last Christmas. I think I will be up to my eyeballs in chicks by the beginning of summer!
