Incubator test went well.. very well...

Set 9 eggs - got 9 chicks!

Hooray for cabinet incubators!

Now for "the real thing".. one dozen here - one dozen at the post office and I don't quite know how many more on the way because Papa said he put as many as he could in the box.. no numbers...

I didn't cut my egg cartons. I used the pulp ones for bantam eggs (they do not fit tight) so I wasn't worried about not getting air all around the sides. All the chicks made it out just fine. They started hatching on day 18 (lockdown and pop, out one came) and just finished this morning.

I feel so out of sorts...cleaned out the bators a couple of weeks ago and then set 85+ eggs all at once, so I haven't had anything hatching or on lockdown for awhile now...and I'm having withdrawal! Next lockdown is coming up and it will be my first duck eggs...then all 80+ that are still in there will lockdown at the same time, lol. THEN I have to find something to fill the bators with again!!

I have lots and lots of Marans (hatched 27 from DMRippy not too long ago), but I can sell you some Lav orps and I'll give you more Legbars to replace the clear ones if you'd like

aha, I was looking on your sig, and i didn't see marans so i thought you might like them, my blues came from DMRippy .. it's a small world isn't it. I will be ready for some orps eggs soon! . I will have Wheaten Marans and Black tailed Buff as well as soon as my girls start laying.. I have a bunch of BCM marans in the bator with the legbars....


i was going to cut myself off,, but i looked at pictures of the orpingtons and they are so nice and big and fluffy.... like my cochins..

Can someone suggest a good place to order an icubator that works well, not TOO expensive, but will hold 8 pheasant eggs, or 6 duck eggs or 8-12 chicken eggs? I know that's kind of alot of details, but I want to make sure I have enough room in the bator when I'm ready for a bigger flock! lol
