i wish my mongrel tom turkey read you postIf geese hiss at you do not run. Do not turn around either. Make your self bigger (arms out and lean forwards) and hiss right back at them. They are mostly bluff. They will run at you - but if you stand your ground facing them they will stop and turn away. The key is to be bigger and meaner than they are...
IA....Help!!!! Have incubator and eggs...Must incubate!!!!
no joke, really
sounds like a brag but i do need serious help, i keep telling myself i'm hatching in order to grow my laying hen numbers for particular breeds, just how many laying hens does one really need to grow the flock? to improve the line? to have enough nice culls to sell to cover some of the expenses?

if you never hear from me again...i'm either glued to the incubator counting the days until The day or dh buried me under one of the chicken tractors lol
happy hatch day to all)
I have the same situation. My daughter surprised us and ordered chicken and duck eggs for me for Easter. And they all came at the same time. I asked a few people how to do it. They said that you should leave the chicks in until day 23. They should be ok for those extra days. Then, quickly take all the chicks out, quickly clean up the mess and then add some humidity (wet paper towels) and consider your ducks in lockdown. My chicks are hatching as we speak and they are doing a good job turning those duck eggs right now. I have 4 chicks out and 7 pipping and this is only day 20! So, tomorrow should be another fun day of babies!I currently have 10 Peking duck eggs and 3 silkie eggs and 5 guinea hen eggs in the incubator together. My question is the chickens will hatch before the ducks and guinea hens. So when it is lock down time, will the duck and guineas be ok without turning for the week? Didn't really think about this when we set the eggs.
Thanks Flowerbh! I was thinking that the hatching chicks would probably move the duck eggs around! Just wasnt sure about the week time span between the hatches. You will have to let me know how you make out!I have the same situation. My daughter surprised us and ordered chicken and duck eggs for me for Easter. And they all came at the same time. OK.... the hatcher is trying to KILL the chicks again. I just have a hot spot in one corner. I found chicks that had hatched lethargic and we wet them to cool them off and I turned the fan on. Most of the Marans seemed ok so maybe it will not hurt them too much this time.Must build a new hatcher... this one is scaring me now![]()
