Thank you.. 4 more out - two yellow and two more "blue". Will be taking more pictures when they fluff up.. they just "popped" out today. One actually busted through the side of the shell.. SuperChick! There sure are a lot of blue/grey ones...

Three more eggs still in there - un-pipped - not peeping. I think I am going to have to candle/float test them...

Sad news is the only Sumatra egg to make it to lockdown from my pair died without hatching. It had pipped yesterday - before all the ones that hatched.. and it never got out. Perfectly formed, fully absorbed - just quit..

I think maybe my two birds were too closely related. Out of 5 eggs I have one live chick from an earlier hatch.

Ah well - there are 8 more Sumatra eggs from other birds in there.. and those will be BLUE

Oh, and broody mommie has one chick out - from 10 eggs...

If you want to breed keep one roo if you keep them all you will need to separate them. They will start to fight and fight to the death. until one is left. They cannot be able to see each other through the fence. I don't have any info on meat birds. I only raise laying hens. I do butcher the roos I don't want for breeding. Good luck, it is a constant learning lesson.

Welcome to BYC!!!

YOu have me thinking . . . . .My 20 roosters free range, occassionally a squirmish but they work it out. I have dual purpose types, mostly hatchery stock, though some is not ( Breeder stock) so what accounts for fighting to the death?? I did have two that duked it out day after day, so I tossed one into another pen. If any thing, I see roosters as unpredictable, not clear on when a confrontation will erupt. However, it is not a common thing. Now I am going to watch more often !!

I don't find that to be the case at my farm. If the roos grow up together they seem to do fine. If I take one out and try to put it back..... then there will be a fight. I have never had a roo kill another one. I think that is more likely with game birds. I have had roos fight, some I thought were dead, but not even close to dead when I picked them up to check. Once a dominate roo is established the fighting stops.
