let the text hatching begin! moved birds so now I have a rhodebars pen that are all laying. I CCL pen with one pulletvlaying and another in a couple of weeks after she is cleaned out from the other roos she was with. white Ameraucanas soon to follow in another pen. OHHHHHH yeah the birchen marks pen will be hatchable in a few weeks. testing some other Marans with a roo I have never used and will be culling my main Marans pen way back to just. few girls with my best roo.



well now that I have typed all that out I am even more excited lol.

I just put my big hatch into lockdown... i got some fine looking leghorn eggs from somewhere ..... LOL!!!!

I just have 2 pullets but they are good layers. let me check fertility after I get the 1 pullet cleaned out. check back with me the end of the month. might not have a dozen...might have to get something else too. ....hehe.

YEAH the eggs for my friend are hatching and i just cheched the Heritage RIR and they are all looking good and fertile i think i have this hatching down
now for my Dark Brahmas I am so addicted too i now have show stock so ................. Practice is not needed but i like it LOL

with my home made bator- I would candle at day 18 and make sure they don't have too much fluid, then for me since I dry hatch I add more water/sponges when I see the first pip so they don't get too gooey. they hare still damp when they hatch out, no shrink wrap.

Yay, duckling number six hatched yesterday. He/she had some issues, it was squeaking frantically for about 8 hours before I made a little viewing hole for him. The poor thing couldn't get his bill up to the shell so he had a little assistance. When he finally did push his way out he didn't have much of an egg tooth either it was half the size of the other ducklings, but he had no yolk when he pushed himself out and so far he looks just as healthy as the others, just a little smaller. So far I have found out that a staggered hatch is much easier when you have 2 incubators, one for lock down and the rest in the turner. Thank god I stared writing the collection date on the pointy end of the egg, I was able to add an appointment to my calendar for every day I have to add an egg to lock down, and another for when they are due to hatch. So far other than 6 and the one that died due to ruptured we have had no problems. I think I am going to need a bigger brooder soon though. Or start a new one. Incubating is defiantly addicting. I'm also thinking about buying some runner and rouen eggs from an out side source so my new duckies have some outside blood to breed with next year, because inbreeding can't be good. Now all I have to do id convince my hubby to buy me some more eggs.
