Well I have been doing a very small hatch; 6 EE eggs and 4 ginormous ones from my Wellie/leghorn girl. Rooster is my lavender orp x EE boy Earl Grey. This is the first time I"ve used him. Just a small hatch because I really really really don't have the space, but wanted to see how his chicks will turn out. So now I have 5 EE chicks and 1 from the Wellie X girl. And have a broody BO out in the pens that is going to get some chickies to raise.

I am having some awesome hatches.... 66% with shipped eggs and 85% with my own eggs... the big one is next week .. so excited i have about 14 black/blue copper marans, 10 lavender orpingtons, 8 white leghorns, 6 CCL x leghorn and 2 ee x leghorn.. woohoo Hatchday wednesday!!!

ROFL thought i'd better check my incubation log... turns out the ones I candled a couple days ago are due tomorrow. guess I better get them in the hatcher. k.i.forgot strikes again...

edit: well, they're in the hatcher. LOL just in time. of 22 eggs, looks like all have at least done drawdown, if not internally pipped already. some were talking to me as I moved them.

LOL at that point I put the rest in the hatcher and continue on... only had 1 shrink wrap once, and that batch of eggs were all pullet eggs and the chicks were all 'defective' (probably due to power failure for several hours while I was out). one was blind, another missing toes, and 2 others hubby labeled SWI... something wrong inside. none made it more than 3 days. fortunately, I haven't had any of that again. I think it was just a chance of bad timing and coincidence.

I found out that the staining that appeared on the egg was a ruptured yolk. The duckling inside didn't make it unfortunatly, when he stopped moving I decided to open the egg and he was shrink wrapped and his yolk was smeared all over the inside of the egg along with some blood it looks like maybe he hemmorged as well.

The poor little guy never had a chance. On the up side I have two happy healthy (and very loud) ducklings fully hatched and two more well on their way to leaving their eggs as well.

I've read through a few threads about this. Has anyone have or know someone who has tried to hatch Wal-Mart eggs? I went earlier today and seen their
Great Value "fresh, cage free, brown eggs" they are very large brown eggs, similar to the ones my Rhode Island reds lay.

I've read through a few threads about this. Has anyone have or know someone who has tried to hatch Wal-Mart eggs? I went earlier today and seen their
Great Value "fresh, cage free, brown eggs" they are very large brown eggs, similar to the ones my Rhode Island reds lay.

I tried some from a local farmer sold at the health food store. By the date on the box they were 11 days old and when I sat them. 2 actually started but were DIS on day 14. I never tried again but good luck

Don't know about Walmart eggs, but have heard that a lot of people had good luck with eggs from Trader Joes.

I've read good reviews on trader joes, but unfortunately the nearest one is 2 hours away.
