Incubators Anonymous

Ok looked at the Heritage RIR and all look to be fertile and ready to hatch the 9 and 10th of August YEAH ............. Now problem lady i was hatching them for just got told she can not have chickens Im like Uh ror

So my 20 duck eggs got here today. The hatchery included a brochure on hatching duck eggs. I was shocked to see that they recommend the humidity to be 86% for the first 25 days and then 94% for days 26-28! Holy Moly! The last ducks I hatched were like 35% and then 65%. These are Indian Runner Duck Eggs. What do you guys think??????

They are probably referring to wet bulb humidity, not the relative humidity so many use now. Used to be incubators had two thermometers, the dry bulb was the air temp and the other had a little wick that was wrapped around the tip of the bulb, with the wick in a cup of water. This was the wet bulb. Check google for a conversion chart from wet to relative and see if they aren't close to what you have used before. I had 90=100% hatches of Welsh Harlequins running 25-30% during incubation, then 65% on pipping.

You know, I think you are right. They mentions a wick, but I didn't quit understand that. Yes, I will use the 30% and then 65%. Thanks!

Hi everyone, 2 of my eggs just hatched and I am not sure what type of ducks they are. When we purchased her mom and dads we were told that they were chocolate rumner ducks, and since they were brown, fuzzy and walked upright we took them at their word. But when they matured it turned out that ghey looked like rouens and walked like rouens, my female has wild feathers on the top of her head like she is partially crested. Now with the babies they jave almost a half fro on their heads and look just like their parents, but I can't find any puc on line that look anything like them. Please help.

You need some Faverolles for their red brown eggs too - and some Croad Langshans - they have purple eggs

Today I accidentally bought a partridge leghorn and a columbine (both POL) so that covers the white and blue/green! Purple eggs, now that sounds good!

Quote: columbine? that's a flower...

unless you mean Columbian, then that's just a color variety found in a number of breeds...
Wyandotte, Leghorn, Cochin, Brahma, & others.

the blue-green eggs would be easter eggers, legbars, ameraucana or araucana & others too I am sure.
