I have set 27 eggs. do I need 27 chickens, no, but I am NOT counting them before they hatch. I did hatch out a bunch in the spring, of course some were meals, I mean males, and some I gave to friends. I bought 6 dark blue copper maran eggs they sent 7. I wanted to buy the true aracana eggs, but settled on blue eggs from a farm and a friend (they only cost me $5. total for 20 eggs as apposed to $30. for 6 of the true.) with some tan and white eggs mixed in.I gave you this pic already but I cannot stop looking at them.

Such a beautiful mix of eggs colours. This is what I am aiming for. All my current layers lay mid brown eggs, but I have young welsummers and marans, and in the incubator I have leghorns and araucanas. I'm hoping this will produce enough pretty egg laying hens for me to turn off the incubator......

You need some Faverolles for their red brown eggs too - and some Croad Langshans - they have purple eggs

The Croad Langshan is an ancient breed originating from the Langshan region in Northern China (where we believe they still exist today). They were imported into Britain by Major F.T. Croad in 1872. The original colour was black with a bottle-green sheen, and that is the main colour today, although some whites have been bred from the blacks. Egg colour is a pinkish plum.

So my 20 duck eggs got here today. The hatchery included a brochure on hatching duck eggs. I was shocked to see that they recommend the humidity to be 86% for the first 25 days and then 94% for days 26-28! Holy Moly! The last ducks I hatched were like 35% and then 65%. These are Indian Runner Duck Eggs. What do you guys think??????

I think those numbers are designed to kill your eggs so you have to buy more... you might as well 'incubate' in 99.5 degree pot of water

if you've hatched ducks before, do what works for you.
