Incubators Anonymous

I have handmade bators so I hand turn 2x a day- I know it should be odd numbers, but that is how I chose to do it and have not had problems. it is best to turn the first 12 days or so then you don't have to turn. but what is great about that is since I dry hatch, If I am not turning after the 12th day or so it helps to keep the moisture the eggs already have with in the bator, then after the internal pip I up the moisture. this is what works for me.

My home-made bator haf a turner but it packed up mid way through a hatch, not sure how many days it was not turning but I had a good result anyway. Since then I have used it a couple of times, the big plus is I can get a lot more eggs in without the turning mechanism! I have not found it a problem - turn in the morning when I let my chickens out, turn mid-afternoon when I collect the eggs, turn again when it gets dark after I put the chickens to bed. Fits in nicely with my normal routine.

auto. I can't always remember to turn the eggs often enough, and my hands shake so when I do I may end up scrambling them inadvertently...

I would not claim to be an incubating expert. But I know I wouldn't want to hand turn the eggs - I have a terrible memory, and a LIFE! So - either I would forget when I was here, or I would be somewhere else... and forget when I came home.

I also agree on doing something stupid like dropping them. I can be a clutz at the best of times - and that would be the worst of times. When its time for lockdown I have to be extra careful to move them as it is!
