Incubators Anonymous

From my experience, I have found that early signs of veining usually start just below the air cell and progress from there. Sounds good for those eggs developing. Good luck! It is soooo much fun watching them develop.

update on pipping chick. dead, peeping at me last night before I went to bed, I opened shell this a.m. (24 hours). dead chick. nuts!!

sorry you lost him, but IMO even if you'd helped him out, that is not a bird I would want to add to my breeding flock... they tend to be weak and needy forever.

don't get me wrong, I do help chicks out, but those ones invariably, if they survive, go to sales. I don't want that weakness in my flock. it may not be genetic, but why take the chance.

Just casually dropped into a conversation with my hubby "I could really do with another incubator", expecting to get a firm NO and that look.... when he replied "you'd better buy one then".............

I agree, I used to help them out, (and I still do if it's obvious that there was a human type malfunction that got them shrink wrapped) but i agree that hatchability is an important trait and not helping them out is a kind of natural culling process. It's hard but eventually one could end up with a flock that had great fertility but an inability to actually hatch.. ..................
