Anyone ever use a farm innovation 4200 with turner and fan I'm looking for a cheaper back up

now its equal to the hovabator 1588 for much less

the cold weather must affect my drake's sperm. nothing is showing signs but chicken eggs got veins. last year we processed his babies so he has it in him

I turned the hatcher off.... no pips no movement for days....

I will put tape on the hatcher NEXT time. So sad.... Some were going to be my first hatch from them in MONTHS.


On a brighter note.... I found 4 egg in the Breese pen .... hehehe.....

Waiting on the first hatch of the year; due today; but nothing so far. I am thinking my thermometers may be off and they might be cooler than they should be. I'm going to candle in a bit and see if I can see any internal pips. 5 BCM 4 EE 3 silkie

Just put in yesterday 18 purebred Ameraucana, blue, black, splash. Some Muscovy eggs for a friend since the hen had over 25 eggs and wasn't setting yet. Can;t possibly cover than many eggs, she's not that big.

Collecting some more BCM and trying to figure out how to separate out 5 Buff Plymouth rock girls so I can collect eggs separate ..... just never enough pens when you need them.

Alright so my eggs were unsuccessful. The one that looked good was... just alas the lack of humidity from the snow outside caused shrink wrapping and it suffocated after pipping internally but not getting any further. It had even absorbed all the yolk and was fully ready to go. I know that the humidity inside the incubator was really high. I don't have a hydrometer so I have to guess but the air was REALLY humid in the incubator. I'm redoing my incubator (home-made) and going to try again. I was super close so next time will work!

it's also quite possible to have the humidity too high at hatch... if it's too high it's too hard for the chick to breathe when he's first learning... quite possible he just died and the membranes just dried out after he died.

shrink wrapping is usually due to low humidity after they pip externally. until then, the moisture inside the shell is going to be sufficient for the chick to internally pip. if the humidity was too high during incubation, then that's another reason for quitting after internal pip. the egg hasn't lost enough moisture and all that excess fluid is absorbed into the chick putting strain on his heart and lungs when he first tries breathing.

how can you tell if humidity is ok without hydrometer

I just stick my hand in and it is moist- I have a small homemade incubator- and at first pip I put in moist paper towels
