Incubators Anonymous

I need to get your opinion on whether this 100 Watt IncuKit :Egg Incubator Digital Electronic Thermostat Fan Heater Combo would work for a cabinet incubator approximately 30 tallx30 deepx18 wide. It currently has the wafer and heating element with a fan. Do you think I should stick with the wafter? Thanks for your help.

2 more look like this one hatched- one tried to squeeze between box and wire dangling by fuzz and belly see the hole left top wire pic? I had a blanket on top like below, she is okay though.

when the blanket is on top you cannot see the hole she found it though.

DM Rippy what type of thermostat do you have? It looks like a digital water heater thermostat? I haven't seen one like that.

I don't have any with WHT anymore. I had a hatch of chicks go south and don't trust them anymore. I lost all my hatch.

I use this one in all my incubators, hatchers..... thought about using it in brooders too.

One thing I like most about this is it has a COOL function and it will turn on a cooling exhaust fan or something when it gets too hot. That is what killed my chicks...... 118 when I found them.

I collect eggs for a week and set eggs on Saturdays and lock down on wednesday or thursday EVERY WEEK.... keep it easy that way.
I set weekly if I can, but CAN set up to 5 days apart or so, if needed. I like to have an extra day for 'just in case'... 3 days for lockdown, 1 extra, and 1 to clean and dry the hatcher.

though this time around, it'll be another 2 weeks or so for hatching, because the cold killed so many eggs. the 2 batches that would be due to hatch this weekend and next were all clear - not a speck of red among any of them, while the week previous all hatched fine.

I was setting everything 3 days and I am just NOT going to do that this time.

I think I belong in this thread...ever since the NYE hatch-a-long which was my first hatch I have wanted to set more eggs and knew there was no way to make it until the Easter hatch LOL. Our neighbors behind us are finishing up their coop, so I JUMPED on this perfect opportunity! I have the bator purring away again almost ready for some eggs tomorrow! What a lovely sound it is.

There was only a 50% hatch rate with my barnyard mixes, so I am hoping for higher this time. I have a feeling it is because my layers that I acquired with this house are older...3 to 7 years old. So not much I can do about that, but will put 24 in the Brinsea. I learned with my last hatch NOT to tetris stack, because there were 5 still stacked at lockdown and though it went OK...was very anxiety provoking.

Anything I can do to increase the hatch rate of older layers? Fertility is not an issue...we are 95% bullseyes!
